On Hiatus: Cruise to Alaska
I’m leaving tomorrow for the family cruise from Seattle to Alaska. It should be fun - I’m looking forward to a break. It’ll be a number of firsts for me, including my first time on a cruise, my first time west of Ohio or north of Toronto, as well as various other things.
Here’s the itinerary [see itinerary on HAL's Website]:
- 6/30 Friday - Fly from Newark to Seattle, check in at Comfort Suites Downtown/Seattle Center (with free HSIA!!!)
- 7/1 Saturday - Meet my father’s cousin in Seattle, watch Colorado Rockies vs. Seattle Mariners game at Safeco Field. (look for us in Section 327! [seating chart])
- 7/2 Sunday - msWesterdam leaves port at 4PM(PDT)
- 7/3 Monday - at sea
- 7/4 Tuesday - Cruising by Hubbard Glacier
- 7/5 Wednesday - Port: Juneau, Alaska - Mendenhall Glacier & Alaska-Style Salmon Bake
- 7/6 Thursday - Port: Sitka, Alaska - Historic Russian America, Raptor Center & Russian Dancers
- 7/7 Friday - Port: Ketchikan, Alaska - Saxman Native Village and The Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show
- 7/8 Saturday - Port: Victoria, B.C., Canada - ?
- 7/9 Sunday - Arrive back in port at Seattle, fly from Seattle to Newark, arrive late-night, and collapse at home ~3AM
I recently realized that my connectivity will not be that much better than Chris’s. I should have very limited cell-phone access, and even further limited internet access on this trip (except when I’m in Seattle at the hotel, where I should have gracious amounts of both). Should you need to contact me, persistent communication (text message, email, cellphone voicemail) is preferable.
I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures on this trip, and post them here. I might even write entries, posted after-the-fact when I get back (if I don’t have internet access there). It really depends on how bored I get on the ship (I’m bringing mirrors of my current projects so that if I really fall into a fit of boredom, I’ll have something productive to do at least). It’ll be interesting to see if I make any new friends on this thing - I was never really one for making spontaneous friends in random places, but we shall see. I hear the ‘teen’ lounge has DDR contests, if all-else fails
.
Au revoir, and I hope to be talking to some of you soon!

Have fun!
The level of detail in your posts really make me laugh. Somebody should hire you to develop content for websites, you’d be great.
*SIGH* What will you do without communication with humanity? — Actually, that might be very much enjoyable.
Have fun!
Yeah I know - getting people to hire me is what I’m counting on
I had to deal with 2 periods away from any communication at CTY for 3 weeks at a time. I survived (somehow) both times haha. And then there’s always band camps, but they’re alittle different.
