So it’s been awhile since I last posted (over a year). You know what they say, time flies!

My last year at TCNJ was quite enjoyable – I caught up with a lot of old friends, met a bunch of new friends, and still found time for class and other projects.

This year saw (among other things) the release of collegiatetaiko.org (a hub for collegiate taiko groups and players), a refactoring of mtwstudios.com, work on TCNJ’s COMTOR and IJIMS projects, and work on a soon-to-be-released site!

I also found time to hone my photography skills by lugging my trusty Rebel XTs around with me everywhere I go, and holding impromptu photoshoots in the PAR.

Much of the Spring was spent preparing for Mystique of the East, an annual cultural showcase run by TCNJ’s Asian American Association. I performed with TCNJ Taiko, debuting a new original song written by Mike Smith, and sang with Mariko Curran in a rendition of “All I Ask of You” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera… in Japanese.

When I wasn’t worrying about things at TCNJ, I was preparing for life after college by sending out various applications, interviewing, etc. I eventually was offered (and accepted) a full-time position as a Web Developer for The New York Times! I’m in the Client Technologies department which is responsible for (among other things) the front-end development on nytimes.com.

I started on May 17th (3 days after graduation. Breaks are overrated.), and am working in the brand new building on 8th Ave. in Manhattan. Come visit if you’re in the city, and we’ll do lunch! : )

Well I’ve finally started my new job on campus, working for the school’s Tech Shop. It’s good to finally get paid for what I’d be doing for people anyway .

The Tech Shop is the branch of the IT Department which deals with hardware and software maininence, inventory, and support for all of the school’s computer systems. As a computer technician in the Tech Shop, I’ll be mainly going out on calls to faculty who call in with problems, and my job is to fix said problems. Issues we have to deal with range from a computer not being able to print to blinking green bars on the monitor to smoke coming from the tower.

I’ve spent the past week or so training, and it’s been fun so far – the people who work there are cool, and I’m only working 10 hours a week which is enough to leave room for study/class time. It’s also cool because I’ll get to meet a bunch of the different professors/faculty (namely the ones in my school) while on the job.

All-in-all, it seems like I’ll be enjoying working here for awhile!

As a follow-up to “Finally got a Job!”, I’d like to say that the job’s going pretty well so far. I’ve noticed however that the summer seems to go by so much faster than before I was working. Usually I have a pretty good sense of time and what I did during the week, but by the end of this week each day ran together like you wouldn’t believe. It probably doesn’t help that I haven’t done as much at home as I would normally do. Guess it takes alittle getting used to.

IT finally got around to setting up my email and Windows accounts, and as far as The Franklin Group domain is concerned, I am “Matthew Wolverton”. I’m used to it.

Chris is working with me now! He has the 9:30-6 shift (I have 8:30-5) so doing stuff after work might take alittle…. work to… work out. Hopefully we’ll get to take lunches though – exciting!

If you ever need to contact me at work, the preferred method is my work email, MWolverton@inventivhealth.com.
